URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/register-school Last updated: September 2026 Schools and learning centres register through the SoMC registration platform. Go to the registration portal and create a school account. Enter your school's details — legal name, address, website, and a primary contact. Once approved, you can register students for the contest. If your school is happy to welcome students from other schools at its sitting, tick Welcome students from other schools on your School settings page. Once Spirit of Math has reviewed it, your school is listed on the [Contest Centres](/centres) page so local families whose school isn't taking part can find you. Approved centres also receive access to the Practice Centre for their students — contact us with the email addresses that need access. If you run a learning centre outside Canada and there is no contest presence in your country yet, email us at info@spiritofmathcontest.com — we will advise on the options for your region. ### When is the registration deadline? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/registration-deadline Last updated: July 2026 Registration deadlines vary by country and by contest cycle, because each participating country runs its contest sitting on its own schedule. Your school's contest coordinator or your country page lists the current deadline for your region. Global Round registration has its own separate deadline, communicated in the invitation email sent to qualifying families. If a deadline has just passed and you missed it, contact us right away — we will tell you honestly whether anything can be done for the current cycle. ### Is there a registration fee? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/registration-fee Last updated: July 2026 Fees depend on how a student participates: Through a school or contest centre: your school communicates the contest fee for your country. Global Round (for qualifiers): the Global Round is a separately ticketed, full-day in-person event with its own student and parent/guardian registration fees. See "What does Global Round registration cost?" for details. There is no discount program — event pricing is already set as close to cost as we can make it, and we work each year to keep the event affordable for families. ### Can parents register a child directly? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/parent-register Last updated: September 2026 For the main contest sitting, students write through a school, so ask your school to register first — it takes a school about ten minutes. If your school isn't taking part this year, your child can still write at a Spirit of Math campus or a partner contest centre. Find one near you on the [Contest Centres](/centres) page, choose your child's grade, and register on that centre's own registration page. You can also nominate your school there and we will invite them to host. For the Global Round, qualifying families register directly: each qualifying student receives an invitation email with a personal registration link. Both the student and an accompanying parent or guardian must be registered — see "Do parents have to attend the Global Round?" If there is no school or centre near you, email info@spiritofmathcontest.com and we will advise the options for your country. ### Which grade does my child compete in? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/grade-selection Last updated: July 2026 Students compete in the grade in which they qualified. If your child wrote the contest in Grade 4 and has since moved into Grade 5, they still write the Grade 4 paper at the Global Round — the invitation email names the exact grade program to register under. Register under that program even if your child's school grade has changed. If the grade in your invitation looks wrong, reply to the invitation email before registering rather than guessing — the grade determines which paper your child writes. ### Registration portal errors and how to fix them URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/registration-errors Last updated: July 2026 These are the three errors families hit most often, and what to do about each: "The cart contains a program that is frozen, full, expired or duplicated" Usually means the program has reached capacity, the same program is already in your cart or account, or the registration window has closed. Empty your cart, sign out and back in, and re-add only the program you need. If it persists, email us a screenshot with the participant's name and the program that triggers it. "Conflicting class schedule with a previous registration" This appears when a parent registers themselves after registering their child — both programs share the same contest-day time slot, so the conflict check fires incorrectly. Email us your child's Confirmation ID and a screenshot, and we will complete the parent registration from our side. "Bad gateway" or the payment page will not load A temporary payment-processor issue, not a problem with your card. Wait 15–30 minutes and retry in a fresh browser session. If a registration deadline is days away, email us the same day so we know you attempted on time. In every case, include: the participant's full name, the program, your Confirmation ID if you have one, and a screenshot. That is everything we need to fix it fast. ### How the Global Round waitlist works URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/waitlist Last updated: July 2026 When a Global Round program fills, you can join the waitlist through the same registration portal. Parent registration: do not pay for the parent/guardian registration while your child is waitlisted. Wait until your child's spot is confirmed, then complete both registrations together. Your position: email us and we will look into your child's status. We cannot promise whether or when waitlisted spots will open. If your child's spot is confirmed, you will receive an offer email with instructions for completing both registrations. ### Receipts, invoices and Confirmation IDs URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/receipts-invoices Last updated: July 2026 Your automatic registration-confirmation email is your receipt. It shows the amount paid, the participant's name, the program, and a Confirmation ID. Keep the Confirmation ID — quoting it in any support email lets us find your registration immediately. Need a formal invoice (for an employer or records)? Email us the Confirmation ID and the name the invoice should be issued to. Paid by bank account? Bank payments take several days to clear, so your confirmation may show a balance owing at first. No action is needed unless you receive a failed-payment notice. ### Cancellations, changes and refunds URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/refunds-changes Last updated: July 2026 Plans change — email us as early as you can at info@spiritofmathcontest.com with your Confirmation ID and what you need: Cancelling: tell us the reason (a brief note of circumstances helps for medical situations). Approved refunds are processed back through the registration portal, and you will receive a refund-confirmation email when complete. Switching programs or correcting a grade: these cannot be self-served once paid — email us what you registered and what it should be. Refund decisions, especially close to the event date, are handled case by case. ### When is the contest in my country? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/contest-date Last updated: July 2026 The contest runs in each participating country on its own schedule, coordinated by the schools and contest centres in that country. Check the Countries page for your country's contest window. Your school or contest centre confirms the exact sitting date and time for your students. Qualifying students are then invited to the Global Round, held in Toronto, Canada. For 2026, the Global Round takes place on Thursday, August 13 at the University of Toronto Chestnut Conference Centre. ### What is the contest format for each grade? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/contest-format Last updated: July 2026 Every student writes a paper set for their grade, and students compete in the grade in which they qualified. At the Global Round, the day is built around two rounds: The individual contest — the heart of the event. Each student writes their own grade-level paper, and individual results determine awards. The team round — students are grouped into teams of a similar age, and by language, so every child can work comfortably with their teammates. The Practice Centre has resources and past papers to help students prepare for both. ### How do awards and the Honour Roll work? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/awards Last updated: July 2026 Spirit of Math Contest awards are earned by performance against other students in the same grade. For the National Round that comparison is within your own country; for the Global Round it is worldwide. The medal bands are shares of that group, awarded in rank order: Gold Medal — the top 5% Silver Medal — the next 10% Bronze Medal — the next 25% Two further awards are based on score alone, and a student can hold one at the same time as a medal: Perfect Score — a score of 100% Honour Roll — a score of 80% or higher A student who places in the Bronze band with 82% therefore receives both a Bronze Medal and Honour Roll recognition. Ties always earn equal awards. If the last place in a band falls inside a group of students on the same score, every student on that score receives the higher award, and the next band still goes to its full share of students. This means slightly more than 40% of a grade can finish with a medal — that is the rule working as intended, not an error. Every other writer is recognised too: a Certificate of Participation in the National Round, and a Merit Medal at the Global Round. These rules apply to the Spirit of Math Contest itself. Partner competitions that SoMC students may go on to, such as international invitationals, set their own award criteria. If your child received an award notification and you would like it verified, email us their full registered name, grade, and school or centre. ### How do students qualify for the Global Round? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/global-round Last updated: July 2026 Top performers in each country's contest are invited to the Global Round in Toronto. Qualification is based on contest results — qualifying families receive a congratulations email with the student's award and a personal registration link. A campus or school placement (for example, "second in grade at my school") does not by itself mean qualification — the invitation email is the confirmation. If you believe your child qualified but no invitation arrived, check your spam folder first, then email us their full registered name, grade, and school or centre and we will check the master list. ### When are results published? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/results-timing Last updated: July 2026 Results are released after all answer sheets have been collected and marked in every participating country — because awards are calculated across the full field of participants, no country's results can be finalized until every country's papers are in. This means the wait varies by cycle. Award notifications are emailed to families once results are official. If other families at your school have received results and you have not, check spam first, then email us your child's full registered name, grade, and school or centre. ### My child's name is not on the results list URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/name-not-on-results Last updated: July 2026 The three most common causes, in order: Name mismatch — the list uses the exact name your child was registered under, so a preferred name or different spelling will not match. Wrong grade or edition — check that you are viewing your child's grade for the current contest year. Your region is not uploaded yet — results post as each country's marking is completed. If none of these apply, email us the child's full registered name, grade, and school or centre, and we will check the master list directly. ### How do certificates get to my child? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/certificates Last updated: July 2026 Certificate delivery depends on where your child wrote the contest: In Canada — certificates are handed out at the Spirit of Math campus. External schools and contest centres — certificates are emailed to the school or centre for distribution to families. If a certificate has not arrived after results were published, or the name on it is wrong, email us — name corrections are reissued. ### Can I see my child's exact score? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/exact-scores Last updated: July 2026 Award notifications state the award earned; if you would like your child's result verified or have a question about their score, email us their full registered name, grade, and school or centre and we will check the record. Award thresholds are relative to all participants (see "How do awards and the Honour Roll work?"), so an award reflects your child's standing across the whole field, not a fixed pass mark. ### What does Global Round registration cost, and what is included? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/global-round-cost Last updated: July 2026 The Global Round is a full-day, in-person event with two registrations per family: Student registration — the student's contest participation and full event day. Parent/guardian registration — required for the accompanying adult (see "Do parents have to attend?"). Both registrations include meals for the entire day, the awards ceremony, and access to parent lounges for registered adults. Current prices are shown in the registration portal once a student is invited. Pricing is not published here because it varies: many country representatives bundle additional services — visa support, travel arrangements and contest coaching — into their own package, so the amount a family pays depends on the country they register through. Ask your country representative for the figure that applies to you. There is no discount program: pricing is set as close to cost as we can make it for an event of this kind, and we work each year to keep it affordable. ### Do parents have to attend the Global Round? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/parents-attend Last updated: July 2026 Yes. Every student must be accompanied by a registered parent or guardian for the full event day. The Global Round is a day-long event for children, and adult supervision of each child is required throughout — there is no drop-off option. That is why the parent/guardian registration exists as its own ticket: it covers your meals for the day, your seat at the awards ceremony, and access to the parent lounges while your child competes. One registered adult per student is the requirement; if additional family members would like to attend, contact us about availability. ### What does the Global Round day look like? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/global-round-day Last updated: July 2026 The Global Round is a full day (in 2026: Thursday, August 13, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM at the University of Toronto Chestnut Conference Centre, 89 Chestnut St, Toronto). The individual contest is the most important part of the day — each student writes their own grade-level paper. The team round groups students of similar age, matched by language, so every child can collaborate comfortably. Meals are provided all day for both students and registered parents. The day closes with the awards ceremony. To prepare, use the Practice Centre — it has resources and past papers for every grade. ### What can students bring into the contest? (Calculators, pencils) URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/contest-rules Last updated: July 2026 The Spirit of Math Contest Global Round is written with pencils only. No calculators — calculators are not permitted in the contest. No personal electronics at the desk during the contest sitting. Bring pencils and an eraser; everything else your child needs for the contest is provided. If your child has a medical device that must stay near them during the exam, see "Medical accommodations." ### Medical accommodations at the contest URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/accommodations Last updated: July 2026 Every accommodation request is handled individually, and we will work our hardest to accommodate your child's needs. Email us before the event with what your child needs — for example, a medical device that must remain within range during the exam, or fast-acting glucose on hand. We will confirm the arrangement in writing and brief the invigilators, and we recommend re-confirming with us the week of the event. The earlier you write to us, the more we can arrange. ### How do students log in to the Practice Centre? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/student-login Last updated: July 2026 Sign in at the Practice Centre (practice.spiritofmathcontest.com) with the email address your access was set up under. The most common login problem is using a different email than the one access was granted to — check which address received your Practice Centre welcome or purchase confirmation. If a password reset email never arrives, check spam, then contact us and tell us which email address should have access. ### Where do I find past contest papers? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/past-papers Last updated: July 2026 Past contest papers and preparation resources are in the Practice Centre at practice.spiritofmathcontest.com — they are the most effective way to prepare for both the individual contest and the team round. If a practice link from an email or page does not work, sign in directly at the Practice Centre home page — and let us know which link was broken so we can fix it. ### Is the Practice Centre free? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/practice-cost Last updated: July 2026 The Practice Centre has resources for contest preparation, with premium access available for expanded materials. Premium access is granted per email address. If you purchased or were granted premium access and cannot see the materials, confirm you are signed in with the exact email address the access was set up under — and if it still does not appear, email us that address and we will check the grant. Schools and contest centres can request access for their students by sending us the list of email addresses to enable. ### What is your shipping policy? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/shipping-policy Last updated: August 2026 Shop orders are fulfilled through our Shopify store, and everything about shipping for your specific order is shown at checkout, before you pay. Costs and options are calculated from your delivery address at checkout. Delivery estimates shown at checkout are per destination — the shop ships to families and schools in many countries, so a single quoted timeframe here would be wrong for most readers. Tracking arrives by email from the shop as soon as your order is on its way. Buying for a class? Schools don't need a card at all: request a quote at spiritofmathcontest.com/shop/quote and the approved order can ride the contest invoice your office already has. Contest registration is never sold in the shop — registration and its confirmation emails happen on the registration platform. If a shipment is delayed or arrives damaged, email info@spiritofmathcontest.com with your order number and we will put it right. ### How do I check my order status? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/order-status Last updated: August 2026 Your order confirmation email from the shop contains a link to your order's status page, which shows payment, fulfilment and tracking as they update. Open the order confirmation email you received after checkout. Choose View your order — the status page shows payment, fulfilment and tracking in one place. Once the order ships, the same page carries the tracking number. Can't find the confirmation email? Check the inbox — and the spam folder — of the address you used at checkout. Still stuck? Email info@spiritofmathcontest.com with the name and email used at checkout and we will look the order up. ### Can I return an order? URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/help/returns Last updated: August 2026 If anything arrives damaged, incorrect or missing, email info@spiritofmathcontest.com with your order number (and a photo where relevant) — we will replace it or make it right. For other returns, email us with your order number and the reason before sending anything back, and we will confirm the return steps for your country. The shop's checkout links its current return policy, which is the authoritative version. Refunds for approved returns go back to the original payment method through the shop's Shopify checkout, and you will receive an email confirmation when the refund is processed. ## Countries and representatives ### Canada URL: https://www.spiritofmathcontest.com/countries/canada The Spirit of Math Contest in Canada is run directly by Spirit of Math® and is open to all students in Grades 1–8.
